Troy Johns joined WOODVILLE Basketball Club at the beginning of 2000, joining as a coach for two teams. 3 years later, he became President of the WOODVILLE Basketball Club, a position he still holds. During the 1st year of his Presidency, the club changed its image, ditching the blue-blue uniforms and colours in favour of Black, Silver and White. A total of over $5500 was raised through fundraising and sponsorship to achieve this. The club acquired Rick Wolany Toyota and E-Plas Pastics as major club sponsors during this time. Along with these changes, the club grew from 8 teams to 10 teams to teams numbering in the twenties currently with promise of more growth to follow. Woodville has created its own website of which you are on now, and have placed its own club noticeboard at the stadium. In 2002 and in place by the beginning of 2003, Woodville developed an in-depth club history where each player can access their career records, updated weekly. Coaching wise, Troy holds the record for the most games for Woodville, most wins, most losses, most finals and most grand finals and in Spring 2003, finally won his first Woodville Premiership with the Under 16 Warriors. In Spring 2005, the U14 Hornets took out the Under 14.2 title by defeating the Woodville Magic 77-33 in the Grand Final to give Troy his 2nd Woodville Premiership. This game saw the highest grand final score of 77 established. In March 2004, Troy passed 250 games with Woodville.
In October 2004, Troy became the first coach (and the second overall person) to participate in 300 games with the Woodville Basketball Club and on February 25th 2006, coached game number 400. The U18/20 Warriors of Autumn 2006 finished on top of the ladder and progressed through to the Grand Final on July 11th which made them the 9th Grand Final appearance by Troy's teams.
Number 10 would come in the following Spring 2006 season with the Under 16 Hurricanez. The Hurricanez went through the season undefeated, went into the finals a player down, and were defeated in the 2nd semi final by 3pts against St Peters Stallions. Backing up for the Preliminary Final, the Hurricanez prevailed in 37 degree weather 32-15, and went on into the Grand Final, amazingly pushing ahead and winning the Premiership with a 34-18 victory, this being Troy's 3rd Premiership. The Under 18/20 Warriors made it back to back Grand Finals, and Troy's 11th, by progressing through to the U18/20 Division 2 Grand Final, eventuating in a 40-56 Runners Up to St Peters Stallions.

Game number 500 occurred on Tuesday April 17th, a game featuring the Woodville Warriors and St Andrews No Efforts. The 3rd placed Warriors got up for a convincing 23pt (46-23) win over the previously 2nd placed St Andrews team.

The Autumn 2007 season would see the Under 12 Sharks complete only the 5th undefeated season in Woodville history, going 20-0 as Troy's team rampaged its way into the Grand Final with firstly a 31-7 monstering of Iramoo Young Guns in the 2nd semi final, backing it up the following week with a destructive 41pt Premiership victory, winning 49-8 over Corpus Christi Bulls. This would be Troy's 12th Grand Final, and become his 4th Premiership.
On the same day, the U16 Hurricanez would fight their way through a tough Preliminary Final, advancing to Troy's 13th Grand Final with a 27-20 victory over Corpus Christi Invaders. The 13th Grand Final would be a rematch against Iramoo Redbacks, and proved to be a good one. Down 2-18 early, the Hurricanez slammed back on the back of some determined, patient defence and tonnes of courage and fight, to level scores at 28-28. Alas, Iramoo would go on to claim the Premiership, 44-35.

In July 2004, in conjunction with Geoffrey Russell and Raymond Tilley, Troy coached the Woodville Under 16 Wolverines to the club's first ever Tournament championship by winning the Grand Final of the Under 16 Club B Grade Section at the 2004 Melbourne Tigers Tournament. The victory was against Waverley Green by a 24pt margin, 59-35.
In October 2005, the U14 Hornets, coached by Troy, participated in and won the 2005 Great Western Tournament, going undefeated throughout 6 games before taking out the Grand Final, defeating Geelong Tigers by 13pts, 52-39 after remaining undefeated throughout 6 games across the weekend.

In July 2007, the Under 16 Hurricanez participated at the 2007 Melbourne Tigers Tournament. The Hurricanez remained undefeated throughout the minor round, defeating representative teams in Collingwood (43-22), Craigieburn (60-18), Melbourne 5ths (42-28) and Scorpions (36-22) before falling by 7pts to Melbourne 3rds (19-26) in the semi finals. A third placed result the washup.
October 2007 saw the Great Western Tournament take place. Coaching the U12 Sharks, and the U16 Hurricanez at this tournament meant a total of 8 games within 26hrs. The Sharks finished an admirable 3rd place, winning one game and losing two, winning their 3rd place playoff match against Eltham Wildcats 2, 41-29. The Hurricanez moved through the qualifying rounds with a 4-0 record, resulting in their 2nd tournament final appearance, up against the Port Fairy Pacers. In a see-sawing battle, the Hurricanez would fall 6pts short on this occasion, losing 37-43.

The Spring 2007 would conclude in a most remarkable and emphatic performance. Throughout the season, Troy would pass 600 games coached for Woodville. The Sharks, beginning in Under 12s moved up to Under 14's after Round 5, and proceeded to win 10 from 12 games, entering the Grand Final against the Woodville Wave, the Sharks would cause an upset and take out the Premiership with a fascinating come from behind 40-34 victory. This would be Troy's record-breaking 5th Premiership. The Under 18/20 Hurricanez, known also as the Under 16 Hurricanez playing up an age group, would exceed expectations and finish the season in 3rd place, making finals out of age, whilst back in Under 16's, the Hurricanez would post a 14-2 record, finish on top and bounce back from a 3pt 2nd semi final loss, to breeze past the St Peters Boomers and into their 6th Grand Final in the last 7 seasons.

Saturday December 15th 2007 - A Day For The Ages
A remarkable and unique day that shall never be repeated. The Under 16 Division 2 Grand Final between Corpus Christi Invaders and the Woodville Hurricanez would churn out a sequence of events the likes of which will not ever repeat. Through the game, the Hurricanez were down early, by as much as 12 at one point, yet this team just fights and fights and fights. Nearing the end of regulation time, they'd come right back to 1-2pts down, then Aaron fouls out. With just the 5 on the court to play with Ashwin is sent to the foul line. The Hurricanez are two points down, and 9 seconds are left. He makes the first, 1pt down, and then under the most extreme of pressure, swishes the second one. SCORES LEVEL and it's heading to overtime. 39-39. There was a distinct game shift. Hurricanez are confident, Corpus Christi had lost an opportunity, and the throat was perhaps tightening. Enter the first over-time, 5 minutes in duration, Ashwin then fouls out, so the Hurricanez are down to 4 players. Almost indescribably, this team of just supreme fighters not only kept level one player down, but got in front! Then, with less than a minute in the first overtime, Mohamed fouls out, so they are now down to three players. A MASSIVE, MASSIVE challenge now. Again, somehow, someway, totally inexplicable, with seconds left in the first overtime, the Hurricanez get the steal and tear to the basket, and Damian ices two foul shots. The 3 Hurricanez have tied it all up again, and go into a second Overtime, 49-49. This is with 3 players left on the court! Of the three left, Cameron was on 1 foul, Damian on 4, and Andrew on 4. Enter the second over time, and by this point, the game was running well late, and everyone had just converged on this court to watch this extraordinary team dare the impossible. The second overtime begins, and within a minute Andrew fouls out. The Hurricanez are now down to 2 players, and still equal at 49-49. By this stage, the result didnt matter. This was a display of courage, heart and total determination that no Premiership trophy could ever, ever symbolise. With Damian and Cameron on the court, and playing 2 on 5, A shot went up, Damian grabbed the defensive rebound and just ran at the Hurricanez basket. He burned the lot of them, put up a running lay-up with about 3 guys crashing on him, and he scored. With two players, the Hurricanez are up 51-49. With still 2:30 odd to play it was a long shot to pull out a win. Corpus Christi came down the court and scored, 51-51, and then Damian fouled. His 5th foul, and as basketball rules state you cant play with 1 player, the game ended there and then. The Hurricanez, in their record 6th Grand Final in 7 seasons, came Runner Up, but the scoreline will read 51-51 with an * next to it. The entire team were literally swamped by everyone, spectators, their team, their coaches, their supporters, total bystanders. Just everyone that had witnessed that wanted to get to that team and congratulate them and combined with the Sharks Premiership immediately after, no better way to farewell 2007 could have occurred.

Throughout 2008, Troy would coach 3 teams, across 4 games. Continuing with the Under 14 Sharks and U18/20 Hurricanez, in May Troy took over the Under 16 Magic, and in November, the Under 18 Hurricanez would begin play at Altona in the Under 18 Division 1 competition. This marked the first Woodville team to play outside of Werribee's Domestic Competition and signalled a trial for any eventual expansion of the Woodville Basketball Club. Troy would post his 700th game for Woodville in 2008, and took the Hurricanez to a 3rd place finish at the 2008 Melbourne Tigers Tournament, a 3rd place finish at the 2008 Great Western Tournament, again, meeting and being defeated by the 2007 nemisis, Port Fairy Pacers, but reaching the Grand Final of the 2008 Great Western Tournament with the Under 14 Sharks. Into 2009, the same 4 games across 3 teams continued, with the Hurricanez playing in Under 18 Division 1 at Altona contributing Grand Final #16 by coming Runners Up to Williamstown Cannons Gold, 24-37 in the Summer 2008/09 Altona Grand Final played on Monday, May 18th, 2009.

Troy's 1000th Game, 14th July 2009
On Tuesday, July 14th, 2009, Troy would coach his 1000th game all up. The Hurricanez would be the setting for the 1000th game, as the team saluted the night with a 43-18 win over Flames in Round 13 of the Winter 2009 season. The Winter 2009 season would continue to produce milestones as the very same Hurricanez team won through to the Winter 2009 Grand Final in August, firstly capping a 15-1 season by defeating Heathdale Red 51-26 in the semi final and by then finally claiming their 3rd Premiership in the Grand Final by opening up with a 14-0 start to eventually run out 42-36 Premiers over St Peters Sonic Boom. Troy's 17th Grand Final would produce his 6th Premiership, and finally break the deadlock of players and coaches that have shared the benchmark of 5 Premierships.
In October 2009, Troy, James O'Shannessy and the Under 18 Hurricanez played off in the 2009 Great Western Tournament out of Altona and Keilor. Through 6 games, the Hurricanez went 4-2 to go on and win the Tournament with a resounding 55-33 Grand Final win over Falcon Rebels.
The finale to the Hurricanez at Altona career would fall in October 2009, with the Hurricanez making it back-to-back Grand Finals in Under 18 Division 1, alas Runners Up to Altona Pirates, 31-46 in the Grand Final. Across the one year the Hurricanez played at Altona, the team lost a mere 4 games.
Into 2010, and the Summer 2009/10 season would culminate with a Premiership to the Under 16 Woodville Magic, marking Troy's 7th Premiership. The Magic would defeat Heathdale White 29-15 in the Grand Final whilst the Under 14 Sharks would make it 3 thirds in a row, coming Preliminary Finalists 28-45 to Flames.
